Chris & Nancy Haughee

Chris Haughee was a four year member of the Marching Chiefs (1968-72). He was a member of Kappa Kappa Psi and served as an officer for a year and a half. Upon graduation in 1973, Chris attended Law School at FSU, eventually going to work for the Florida Legislature for ten years, followed by private practice in Tallahassee. After many years in Tallahassee, Chris joined a firm in Bartow, FL specializing in workers’ compensation defense, with a niche specialty in election law. In 1976, he began serving as an officer of the Alumni Band Association, becoming its President in 1978-79. Together with Mike Milligan, he proposed a Charter, changing the name and organizational structure to a corporate form of governance, with an Executive Director, a Secretary-Treasurer, and a Board of Directors. For the next four years he served as Executive Director, overseeing the initiation of direct-mail fundraising and an aggressive scholarship program. He then served a three-year term on the Board, serving as its Chairman during that time. He again served as Executive Director from 1991-1994, and then another term on the Board as its Chair. He then served as Chair of the Long-Range Planning Committee. In the fall of 2000, he was again elected to a three-year term on the Board. From 1976-1998 he served as Sponsor of the Gamma Nu Chapter of Kappa Kappa Psi. He has served as District Governor of Kappa Kappa Psi since 1989. In 1992, he received the A. Frank Martin Award from Kappa Kappa Psi for outstanding service to the fraternity. There are few Marching Chiefs, former or present, who do not know “Hawkeye” and appreciate all of his contributions to our organization.

Nancy Haughee became a Chief in 1973, and was a clarinet section row leader in her junior and senior years. She was honored with the award for outstanding senior bandswoman in 1976. Since graduation in 1977, Nancy spent ten years in the banking business. Later, she joined the staff of the Clerk’s Office of the House of Representatives working on the publication of the daily House Journal. She enjoyed the technical aspects of that challenge and transferred to the Legislative Data Center, training staff on hardware and software applications, as well as developing new, updated equipment and software. After living in Tallahassee for many years, she and Chris moved to Lakeland, FL where she is an IT Projects Manager for Publix Supermarkets. Nancy is an active member of the Band Alumni Association, serving two years as Secretary-Treasurer, and two years as Executive Director. From 1998-2001, she returned as a member of the Board, serving as Chair in 2001. Other service to the BAA has included various responsibilities as a member of the homecoming committee, as well as assisting with the website and annual spring fundraising efforts. Nancy served as Sponsor for the Alpha Omega Chapter of Tau Beta Sigma from 1982 until 1998. Nancy is an alumni member of Alpha Omega, and an honorary member of the Gamma Nu Chapter of Kappa Kappa Psi. Nancy has put many years of dedicated service into the Band Alumni Association.
