Message from the Directors – Homecoming Tailgate 2023

To our MCA Family, As many of you know, we had many of our members fall ill after eating at our tailgate party. We areextremely sorry that this has happened to members that participated in homecoming this year. We dohope that most, if not all that were affected are starting to feel better or have fully recovered from theirsymptoms. We are taking steps to ensure that this does not happen to us again. We appreciate your patience and support as the investigation continues. To be as transparent aspossible with everyone, we want to give an update on the tailgate food poisoning that occurred on10/21/2023. It was brought to our attention Sunday morning (10/22) that several individuals had fallen ill later in theevening/overnight. More reports trickled in stating that some of the meat had various odors – “smelledoff”, “like fish”, etc. As it was obvious that this was more than an isolated case, Shanna Miller put together a quick surveythat was sent to all of our registered attendees, asking some questions about what food and drink theyconsumed at our tailgate. This survey quickly had 50 respondents stating that they were alsoexperiencing symptoms of food poisoning. As the reports of illness increased, we did the following: As the investigation continues, we want to let everyone know that we will not be sharing any of thesurvey information outside of the DOH. On 10/27/2023, Shanna received the update below from the DOH: A typical investigation of this kind would involve surveys, specimen collection, a joint investigation withthe Department of Professional Regulation and data analysis. Measures are also instituted to mitigatefurther risk to the community. It can be a lengthy process but when everything is complete, a final report is produced.I will notify you when that occurs so that you can obtain a copy, if desired, through a public recordsrequest. All you would need to do is send your request for the outbreak report toPublicRecordsRequest@flhealth.gov. Outside of the food poisoning, we hope that everyone enjoyed our other homecoming activities. Wehad 2 excellent performances and a great football game in between to keep us entertained. Please feel free to reach out to us with further questions or concerns about this unfortunate event. Thank you,Your MCA Executive CommitteeMichael Staden, Executive DirectorShanna Miller, Associate Director for ActivitiesLucas Bhuvasorakul, Associate Director for AdministrationBonna Larson, Chair of MCA the Board of Directors

Board Election and Homecoming 2022 Update

Hello everyone, I hope this message finds you well. I have a couple of messages I need to relay to you. First, congratulations to Michael Resnick, and Keva Dallas for retaining their positions on the board, and we welcome Hannah Pucciarelli and Troy Mahler to the board. I look forward to working with all of you and expanding on our great work. I have been confirmed as your Executive Director for another 3-year term. During this term, I plan on working even harder to promote our MCA brand and find my replacement. Second, with FSU canceling classes for the remainder of the week and the FSU Alumni Association canceling all Homecoming events through Sunday, we will not be having our MCA Homecoming this year. What does this mean? We are working with FSU on how we will proceed with having Homecoming at the 2023 Spring Game. Do we have answers today? No. FSU and the MCA are in the infant stages of planning how to handle this. As we get answers during the week we will let you know. I understand that a majority of us are disappointed that this happened. I am as well, but with a major weather event that’s about to impact our state, it is best to err on the side of caution and not put the public and alumni in danger. I agree with FSU completely. Please keep an eye on your social media or the email address you provided us when you registered on the FSUMCA website for more information during the week. MCATDTMichael T. Great Give 2022 Recap

Hi everyone,  I hope this message finds you well and enjoying your March with family, friends, and family by choice. I wanted to provide a recap of the 2022 Great Give because without donations from all of you we couldn’t have made this true kickoff of the Chiefs United Endowment Campaign possible.  Over 600 people donated to the Marching Chiefs 2022 Great Give campaign. The individual gifts plus incentive awards gave us a “giving day total” of $120,450. Grand Prizes will not be announced for  another month so our final total could be a lot more.  I would personally like to thank Mike & Judy Pate for their $25,000 gift (which is actually just the first component of their $100,000 pledge to Chiefs United). If you haven’t seen the video on social media about their cause and reasoning behind this project, I invite you to take a look (you do not need a Facebook log-in to view this video). For the immediate future, we will be focusing on the Chiefs United endowment campaign. It will take more than the Great Give to reach the $1.6 million dollar endowment, but I truly believe we can get there. If you are in a position to make a pledge, please contact Dr. Patrick Dunnigan or myself, and we will get you in touch with the right people.  Another milestone: since we started getting serious about the Great Give in 2015, our supporters have donated over a half million dollars — in the neighborhood of about $540,000. THAT is absolutely amazing. These donations have gone toward wonderful things for our Marching Chiefs: new instruments, equipment, a new state-of-the art sound system, and now, direct financial assistance to the young people comprising Marching Chiefs — all thanks to our alumni, fans, friends, and families.  If you missed the Great Give but want to donate to Chiefs United, please use the following link: Chiefs United Donation Form Myself, along with the entire MCA Board, Patrick, David, and Chandler thank everyone for making a donation. Every dollar counts.   One Band. One Goal. Every Chief.   MCATDT  Michael T. Staden Executive DirectorFSU Marching Chiefs Alumnihttp://www.fsumca.com/
